Attributed an orange flag by the Touring Club Italia , Castell’Arquato offers the visitor its terracotta buildings, its suggestive narrow lanes and signs of his glorious past from its foundation in Roman times to later days under the Sforza family. A pleasant walk begins at the town gate and upwinds uphill by the little church of St. Peter, the Church of St. Stephen, the Geological Museum and the museum dedicated to the opera libretto writer Illica. On top of the village one can see the Visconti Castle dates back to the XIVth century, enter the tower and from its top enjoy breathtaking view of the valley.
Another building which rises over the town is the Collegiata, with its Romanesque form and warm sandstone colours; looking around the apse you will notice fossil shells inside the stone.
